My Life Journey – Part 6

Life is getting better, after less than a year I was promoted to a project engineer and got a slight increase in my salary. I was given a small project to handle by my self there was no site office, my beautiful car was my office to study the drawings and prepare the reports, weather in summer was horrible very high temperatures and extremely high humidity accompanied by dust.

One day I was talking to someone about the Mosaic art and he said that if I make a personal portrait of the Emir “the ruler” he could find a way to present it to him and in this way I may get many commissions and be a billionaire 😊. In fact this proposal touched me in different angles, I could revert to the art I love and I could gain extra money.

Without any delay, I wrote to my ex-employer in Syria and purchased more than 100kg of tiles. When I received the tiles after 1-2 months I stared immediately working on the portrait it was around 1.5 x1 m, the progress was very slow as I did not have much time due to my long working hours. But in the middle of the mosaic project something happened at my work. I have completed my small project successfully but was not given the bounce as promised which made me very upset and hence, resigned from my job..

Fortunately, I got another job within few days, but this second Job was in another city “Abu Dhabi” which is far from the city I live in “Sharjah” around 120 km, so I moved to Abu Dhabi and left everything behind me, hoping that I will take my mosaics after settling down in the new place.

The new job was with a small road maintenance company, I was the only Engineer with the company owner and 30-40 labours. My salary was not better because as per the owner that he will pay me commissions and bounces plus basic salary for daily life.

As a small company we used to take small jobs far away from each other’s, so I used to drive hundreds of kilometres every day and used to go back to Sharjah on Weekends to spend the time with my cousin and friends. Roads in the United Arab Emirates are wide and very high-quality roads, speeding was normal as every one knows the speed camera locations.

I saw many deadly accidents due to the high speeding but never learnt ….. see you soon…
