My Life Journey – Part 5
My First car ever
My cousin also he is my friend was in UAE (United Arab Emirates) and he was the one who convinced me to go there. He was working in a big company as an auto electrician with very small salary not more 1800 Dirhams per month, and he was living with one of his relatives. I had to stay with them for the first few days (not for free) but that guy which suppose to be a friend and a relative was not as good as could be, I remember one day my cousin had a very severe pain in his stomach and needed to buy a medicine for 60 Dirhams, which me and him don’t have, so he asked his relative “Friend” to lend him this small amount but that guy refused while we were sure that he can afford it. It’s a bad memory I hate to remember it. Nonetheless, from that day we decided to move and rent our own accommodation. My salary was 2800 Dirhams which is very low but not bad for a single. With some help of some people, we found small studio made of 1 bedroom, a small hall, small kitchen and bathroom for 800 per month, and it had some furniture in it for sale. I had to call a friend of my father was living there since long time to borrow some money.
We moved in and spent many hours cleaning and arranging; I love that place. I was in charge of home expenses and shopping
and dish washing
. My cousin was good in cooking
and cleaning. We faced difficult times trying to live and send some money to our families in Syria and on the same save to repay the loan. I remember many days passed we had no money to buy food, but at least we were living in a “nice place” and have lot of hope in the future.
My cousin met an Emarati guy and they became close friends, this guy helped him to find better job in car trading, which was not bad and our financial situation got better.
After paying off the loan, I decided to buy a car, but I have no cash to buy second hand one and banks didn’t approve my loan. Here the Emirati guy offered his help, so we went to the showroom and started to choose the car... Wow looks like I’m choosing a shoes.. I want this.. no no not this …. I don’t like the colour … Oh my God what a strange feeling… finally they showed me colour chart to choose the colour from ….!!!! I bough Red
Toyota Tercel 1998 (brand new)…. I used to wash it every day once or twice
and look at my reflection
on its paint, drive it while looking at it how beautiful and shiny it is…
In Syria during those days there was no import and no new cars, all cars were old and very expensive, my father had one but not new like mine …
I enjoyed driving this for 6 months only
…..bye for now.
Please tell me what you think.
Happy to elaborate more on any point if required..
