Part 2 of my life journey.....
In March 1997 I left my beloved homeland and travelled for the first time in my life, After few days of my arrival in United Arab Emirates “UAE” I joined a Road construction company the owners of that company were Syrian also. I got the job of a site engineer, one day of general induction then i went to my site, so many workers and many heavy machinery, not problem will get used to it. But the not good thing that there is no one speaks Arabic, all the staff were either Indian or Pakistani they speak common language in between each other and speak English with others, my English was horrible i hardly could say basic sentences.
I’ve noticed that i was unwanted at that site maybe due to lack of experience or maybe due to other reasons, I decided to prove my self and learn everything. I used to wait the company bus at 6am and leave the site at 7pm, spending all the day outdoor under the burning sun with a temperature in the range of 40 -45 degrees.
After the whole day tanning under the sun, i head back to my accommodation, to spend the whole night studying English language and road construction specifications until midnight.
Fortunately or unfortunately, after 3 months I had an accident while at site and my right wrist got cracked, I was given a 4 weeks sick leave. Very boring ... can’t go outdoor with blaster on my hand with maybe 100% humidity and not less than 40 degree of temperature. So I had to spend most of my time home alone . The good thing is that i had time to study more and even i taught myself to write with my left hand for the first time.
The sick leave has finished, and I have to go back to my site, to again face the same people who tried before to eliminate me, but now my English and my knowledge of the local specs are much better.....
