My Life Journey – Part 8:
During my time in Abu Dhabi, I managed to buy a visa for one of my 2 brothers, he joined me in ”Abu Dhabi” and we lived together in a rented room of a furnished apartment, he tried with one of his friends to build a small business.
After completing one year with the company in “Abu Dhabi” I have asked the boss to pay me the commission as was agreed at the biggening, my salary as mentioned before was low and couldn’t and didn’t bother to save from it as I knew that I will receive bulk payment at the end of the year. I spent almost 6 months following up with the business owner about my commission, he was always finding a reason to change the subject and escape from the commitment. After more than 6 months he told me that he cannot afford to pay me anything with silly excuses about the company’s expenses and the new “land cruiser” car he bought for himself and blah blah …
Here I decided to leave the job and look for something else. I spent few months without income and with very little savings, my brother also was not getting any income at that time, it was very tough.
One day I received a call for an interview in Dubai, I had no money to go there, but finally one of my good friends lent me his own car while he was on vacation in Syria.
I got a site engineer job with a signage manufacturer and moved to Dubai; it was a big company with good reputation with its clients.
Within few months I became a project manager, I worked for this company around 7 years handled very important projects one of which was the way-finding signage system in Dubai airport terminal 3.
During these 7 years many events took place, some of them are still obvious in my life… will talk about few of them on the upcoming episodes….
My Life Journey – Part 9:
I forgot to mention that before moving to Dubai, when I was jobless in “Abu Dhabi” I had an Emarati friend who showed interest in the mosaic tiles and we had decided to start a company specialized in importing, supply and install mosaic tiles for building facade and swimming pools. My friend was busy studying in the Uni, I moved to his place and stayed with him for around 2 weeks because he had a computer
and internet I could use to prepare for our new business. Using that old computer with “Dial-up” internet 😵💫 with my basic knowledge I searched and contacted many mosaic manufacturers worldwide to get prices. And prepared a feasibility study to be submitted to the government's small business program. I had very big dreams, I even saw all the building, towers and swimming pools in the United Arab Emirates are covered with my mosaic tiles and art. My plan was to import, supply and install only, but my friend was pushing to go further and to manufacture in the UAE. To be frank, the idea of this huge investment scared me and luckily our proposal was not approved in the small business program for some reasons. We decided not to go any further at that stage, and on the same time I got the job offer from Dubai which I mentioned in the last episode.
First 2-3 months in Dubai I rented a room from a friend of mine. He was very generous to me, he waited 2 months for me to pay him the rent and in addition he had lent me some cash for my daily life until I get my first monthly salary.
After these few months, my brother’s business also failed to start, so I asked him to join me in Dubai.
I then moved with my brother to “Sharjah” city, which is very close to Dubai but less expensive, we rented a small flat of one bedroom and a small hall, it was in the 7th floor in a tower at the boarder between Sharjah and Dubai. We furnished it with the basics, my brother was good in cooking so he was the chef and as usual I was in charge of dish washing, washing and shopping. this was around October 2000, my brother left me and moved to another place mid of 2003, why ? will talk about it in the next part
