When I was in the last years of my Civil engineering study in Damascus University around 1996, I got a job with a newly established company manufacturing glass mosaic tiles.

I was a sales rep in their showroom in Damascus.

I had fallen in love with the mosaic tiles we used to produce, so I started to study about ancient mosaic art in Syria and found my self dragged into this world. First piece of art I made was a copy of an ancient mosaic of the sun (i have no photo 🥺), one day the company participated in an exhibition and i was invited to show this piece of art. Shockingly many people stopped by and stared at it, there I received several enquiries, one was a calligraphy decoration for a mosque 25m long and 70 cm wide and the other was 4 personal portrait (for our country president at that time) each 1.7x1.2m.

By completing these commissions, I also graduated from the university and got a job offer in United Arab Emirates. So, I left Syria and the mosaic art end of 1997.
